US jury convicts three in $11m Medicaid fraud and kickback case

A US federal jury convicted E’mon and Armone’ Ambers and Traquan Brown in a case involving Divine Youth Counseling, LLC, according to the Department of Justice. The defendants were convicted on charges including conspiracy to commit wire and healthcare fraud; the Ambers sisters were also convicted of kickback payment and related offences.

The DOJ said the scheme involved more than $11m in allegedly fraudulent Medicaid claims and more than $470,000 in alleged kickbacks through hotel rooms for recipients. Sentencing and forfeiture proceedings are scheduled for December, with more than $5.9m already seized under a federal warrant.
