Netherlands FIOD investigates alleged payments to cardiologists linked to hospital procurement

The Netherlands Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD) searched eight homes and business premises on 10 September 2026 as part of criminal investigations into suspected corruption. No arrests were made; records and assets were seized, and demands for information were issued to several parties.

The FIOD alleges that cardiologists received payments from medical-device suppliers in exchange for preferential treatment in procurement by two hospitals. The alleged payments were described as advisory fees, research contributions and fellow sponsorship, channelled through various entities and allegedly used partly for the doctors’ benefit. The investigation remains ongoing; no charges, pleas, convictions or settlement were reported.
