Former US Navy civilian employee sentenced in procurement bribery case

The US Department of Justice said James Soriano, a former Naval Information Warfare Center official, was sentenced to 72 months in prison after admitting in a plea agreement that he accepted bribes from defense contractors. The alleged benefits included meals, sporting-event tickets, jobs for associates and family members, and monthly cash payments, in exchange for actions affecting government procurements.

Soriano also admitted filing false tax returns related to the payments. The court ordered him to forfeit $209,527.51 and pay $18,722.40 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service; the contractors and other individuals named were not reported as convicted in this release.
