A US federal jury convicted Gary Haynes, a former Assistant District Attorney in Lafayette, of conspiracy to commit bribery, bribery, using a facility of interstate commerce in aid of bribery, conspiracy to commit money laundering and obstruction of justice. The DOJ said the case involved Haynes’s oversight of a pretrial intervention programme and alleged kickbacks linked to directing participants to companies providing required courses.
The DOJ said Dusty Guidry and Leonard Franques pleaded guilty to related conspiracy and bribery charges in 2023 and 2024, respectively; both are scheduled for sentencing on 1 October 2025. Haynes faces up to 65 years’ imprisonment, five years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000, or both.
