The U.S. DOJ said former SP&R Commissioner Calvert White was sentenced to five years in prison after a jury convicted him of honest services wire fraud and bribery concerning federally funded programs. The DOJ said White solicited and accepted a bribe in connection with efforts to secure a $1.43 million security-camera contract, providing confidential bid information and taking official steps to support the award.
Benjamin Hendricks, identified as an intermediary in the payment, was sentenced to 68 months after being convicted on the same counts. The DOJ said contractor David Whitaker sent the payment to an account controlled by Hendricks, who later delivered the funds to White.
