Former San Leandro council member pleads guilty to bribery-related conspiracy

The DOJ said Bryan Azevedo, a former San Leandro City Council member, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit honest services fraud and making a false statement to federal investigators. He admitted accepting Vietnam travel paid by a business association, advocating for a modular housing company, and agreeing to receive a percentage of city purchases.

Azevedo also admitted that a $2,000 cash payment was provided for an LLC and bank account in his wife’s name, intended to conceal future payments, and that he made false statements during a federal interview. He has not been sentenced; the charges carry maximum statutory penalties of 20 years and five years’ imprisonment, respectively.
