Puerto Rico Labor Employee and Seven Others Indicted in Alleged Unemployment Benefits Scheme

The DOJ said a federal grand jury indicted eight women on allegations of obtaining approximately $619,923 in unemployment benefits through false information and identities. The indictment alleges that PRDOL employee Luz Garay-Osorio altered agency records to make relatives and others eligible and received approximately $142,507 in alleged kickbacks.

Garay-Osorio also faces charges including conspiracy to steal federal funds, honest services mail fraud, money laundering and aggravated identity theft. The source reports charges only; it does not report pleas, convictions, settlements or final findings.
