The U.S. Department of Justice said Bruce Johnson, co-owner of Kestrel Medical LLC, was sentenced on January 30, 2026, to 18 months’ imprisonment for conspiring to pay healthcare kickbacks in violation of the Anti-Kickback Statute. The DOJ said payments to companies purporting to provide marketing services were made in exchange for signed prescriptions for durable medical equipment submitted to Medicare, which paid Kestrel more than $2 million.
The court ordered Johnson to serve three years of supervised release and pay more than $2 million in restitution to Medicare. Co-owner Michael Comino had pleaded guilty to the same charge and was previously sentenced to 22 months’ imprisonment, supervised release and restitution. The case was investigated by the FBI and HHS Office of Inspector General.
