Hong Kong court jails property employee and contractor over renovation-work bribery

Hong Kong’s ICAC said former New Estate senior property officer Mak Wing-chun pleaded guilty to four counts of accepting an advantage under section 9(1)(b) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance. Contractor Lee Shing-kan was convicted at trial of four counts of offering an advantage under section 9(2)(b).

The District Court sentenced Mak to 15 months’ imprisonment and Lee to 14 months. The ICAC said the bribes, totalling $1.3 million, were confiscated; the case concerned alleged preferential treatment relating to property renovation works.
