Hong Kong property management employee pleads guilty to accepting HK$1.3m in contractor bribes

Hong Kong’s ICAC said former New Estate senior property officer Mak Wing-chun pleaded guilty at the District Court to four counts of agent accepting an advantage under section 9(1)(b) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance. The charges concerned HK$1.3 million in bribes allegedly accepted from a renovation contractor in return for showing favour in property works.

The court heard that, between November 2020 and June 2022, New Estate had no internal procurement procedures requiring quotations or tenders. One of two contractors received most renovation projects and about HK$26 million in payments. Mak was remanded in custody; no penalty was reported in the source material.
