Brazilian authorities investigate alleged diversion of more than R$30 million in education funds

Brazil’s Federal Police, supported by the CGU, launched Operation Death Note on 17 September 2026 over alleged diversion of federal education funds in Acre. The authorities allege possible coordinated conduct involving businesspeople, public officials and third parties, including bid-rigging, misuse of public funds, improper payments and concealment of fund flows.

Authorities executed 27 search-and-seizure warrants across six cities and ordered the seizure of assets allegedly acquired with diverted funds. The investigation remains ongoing; no charges, pleas, convictions or settlements were reported. Potential offences include procurement fraud, embezzlement, active and passive corruption, money laundering and criminal organisation.
