US clinic owner sentenced in $49 million health care kickback case

Henry Allen Gonzales, owner of Option 1 Pain & Rehab Clinic, pleaded guilty in 2022 to conspiring to pay and receive health care kickbacks. The DOJ said he admitted receiving more than $2 million in kickbacks from a pharmacy, paying marketers for claimant referrals and bribing doctors to sign prescriptions.

A federal judge sentenced Gonzales to 30 months’ imprisonment, one year of supervised release and more than $49 million in restitution. The DOJ said the conduct involved approximately $49 million in claims for medically unnecessary compounded medications submitted to the Department of Labor workers’ compensation programme between 2015 and 2018.
